The Shrike has made Rayne his wife in order to save her from the empty existence her empathy has condemned her to, shunned by all who fear her power. He has revealed his face to her and told her some of his secrets, and there are those who would do anything to discover what she knows. Various rival empires, factions and slavers have offered bounty totalling many millions for his death, and the image she carries in her mind means she is in grave danger should she ever stray from his protection.
Yet still he remains mostly a mystery, a gentle, but aloof companion, and she longs for more. If his enemies capture or kill the Shrike, however, millions of freed slaves will die or be returned to slavery. He is his people’s saviour and protector, and hundreds of thousands will lay down their lives to protect him and sacrifice themselves to avenge him. He is their emperor, who saved them from slavery, and they love him.
An ex-slave himself, the Shrike carries the mental and physical scars of his horrific former life. He started the Slave Empire with a single spaceship and it has grown into the third largest in the galaxy. Even all his warships will not be able to protect him if his rivals discover the truth about him, however, and only one person can betray him. If the Shrike dies, the Slave Empire will go to war with whoever kills him, and the retribution it metes out before it falls will be terrible, bloody, and final…
The Shrike Slave Empire Book 3 eBook T C Southwell
This book was by far thr best of the series, because the characters' connection to one another had evovled and became more due to the previous books. The author is able to take the third book at a much faster pass. I really like the idea of friends in high places...Crystal Ships...hint hint. I understand Tarke a lot better and couldn't bring myself to hate him for trying to put a size on fated love, but true love will not be tamed it seeks to run wild in his heart as it does Raynes. This is a really good read so pick it up and grab the Prophecy and Crystal Ship to gain the true depth of this third installment of a marvelous tale. Oh, let's keep our fingers crossed for a forth book and an even further development in Rayne and Tarke's relationship. I want more from those two!Product details

The Shrike Slave Empire Book 3 eBook T C Southwell Reviews
I like the way the writer seems to just continue to lightly hint on romance; & then develop it deeper as the book progresses. Extremely sensitive on personal feelings but has its tender moments. Excitement & intrigue surrounding the hero & heroine, right through to the end.
This was a pretty good book. There were several twist and turns that I didn't see coming, and I like that! There are 3 books in this series "Slave Empire", so be sure to get the others to find out what happens.
I have just read the slave series back to back ,what a great read, please tell me there will be more in the series,i am now going to have a go at your other books, but its only to give you time to write number 4 in the slave series.its going to be hard to switch to an other writer.so dont stop. Vernon meakin ,South Africa.
Oh wow! Well worth waiting for, really expanded the relationships and characters of the main characters in this storyline. Another excellent story from TC, but please give us some more about Tarke and Rayne. Maybe more about the Crystal Ship? Folks, read the series! If you like SF, you will enjoy this, just don't expect to get much sleep while reading them.
Despite other negative reviews, I decided to form my own opinion. I am so happy that I did! This was an awesome Trilogy, I laughed, I cried, I was really touched by it. I devoured all three books. I enjoyed the last one the best.
this story captivated me completely. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. the story just moved right along, very rich and full descriptions of the surroundings I could see the crystalline ship traveling through the cosmos. I could feel the bubbles of joy floating through the heroines mind.
this series is a must read definitely.
The books should have ended before this one. This book has no plot and it was around this time that I hated everyone and just wanted them to all die horrible painful deaths.
Some of the ideas are alright, but they are not written out and as such I never got into them. The main guy has a horrible history and as such cannot have sex with his wife. That is the biggest thing in this while book. Rayne went from the person who saved billions of people to 'whiny teen who will not give up until she's had sex with her love interest'. I sort of was on her side, after all what sort of jerk marries someone and doesn't tell them "btw I'm not interested in sex" for years? It COULD have come up at some point.
There is also the plot-line of ex-slaves who do not like being touched. Why the heck are ALL the teenagers in those places hating those people so much? I would have liked a reason behind it instead of it just being played for drama. Perhaps the teenagers feel that they are looked down upon for not having been slaves? Maybe they feel as though those who are so scarred up mentally are scary due to their acts of lashing out at anyone who gets near and as such react strongly against them? But no, it was all just a random plot point in the tour of the universe and how much people suck.
I know that Southwell was raised in the Seychelles/South Africa which would explain some things in the books that had me raising my eyebrows (men and women cannot be friends like two men or two women? In millions of races of aliens everyone is the same in this regard?) but that is no excuse for poor writing or plot.
